fortunately and unfortunately: tuesday randomness.

freshly sharpened

Fortunately unfortunately, today was my last day of volunteering at Max's school (I think...)

My favorite part of volunteering this year was sharpening a big pile of pencils at home. (Wow. That makes me sound really awful, doesn't it? Well, that was my favorite part of at-home volunteer work.)

My favorite part of in-class volunteer work was getting see all the kids in the class and my little Maxwell. Getting a glimpse into what a portion of his day is like.

My fear about volunteering this year was breaking messing-up the laminating machine. (First world fears and problems...I know. Ridiculous.)

Unfortunately, today I did something wrong while using the laminator. I wouldn't say I broke it exactly... But it was unusable by the time I was finished using it.

Fortunately, I finished my laminating project before it broke stopped working.

Unfortunately, I had to stay a bit longer to complete my task.

Fortunately, I got the chance to talk to the principal about first grade next year.

I really enjoyed sharpening these pencils.
I really, really enjoyed taking macro photos of these pencils.
I really like simple tasks that leave you with a strong sense of getting something simple done quickly, and checked off the "to-do" list.
Like vacuuming...but I won't get into that now.

You know what else I really enjoy?...
The smell of crayons and looking at all of those colors.
But that's a different post.
With a different set of macro photos.

Oh and then I went to the store and took an item off the shelf of a perfect display (if you follow me on Instagram, you probably saw it.)
Again, that's a different post...maybe for tomorrow.

It's a Tuesday.
Mine was pretty good.
How was yours?...

(does anybody else have vivid memories of writing "fortunately and unfortunately" stories in elementary school?...)

radiant with charms.

macro ranunculus collage

I just finished reading The Language of Flowers, and according to the flower dictionary in the back of the book ranunculus means "you are radiant with charms."

frosty.

frosty thread
I've lacked any sort of motivation or inspiration the past few weeks - with my photography and just about everything else. It's like I'm still in the midst of the holiday hangover that is Christmas and New Years and Max's birthday. And we still have one more birthday to come - Eric's - on Wednesday (though he is in San Fran, so we won't be doing any celebrating till the weekend.)

It's been cold and DRY and luckily, sunny. So on Saturday after my parents left to head back to Seattle, I put on my 105mm 2.8 and headed outside to see if I could capture some of the frostiness outside. I had a moment of inspiration after looking over the two new (new to me) lenses my dad brought me - a Nikkor N 24mm 2.8 and a Nikkor Q 135mm 2.8.  I will have to take some time to figure out how to use these lenses on my D700, since neither is an auto-focusing lens. (Did I say that right?...I'm not known for using the correct photography lingo at times.) Anyway, both lenses are for film cameras, not digital. But there is a way to use both on my D700 - so I've been told.

Until I figure this out and get over my holiday hang-over, enjoy the frostiness. :)

linked: kitchen

My kitchen...I spend a lot of time there. More time than I'd like. I don't enjoy cooking, really. I used though - before I had Max when I had more time. I don't bake unless it comes out of a box. Well, I do make chocolate chip cookies. I can manage that. My repertoire of recipes is small. Very small. I make the same things over and over. And I'm SO tired of making the same things over and over. But I'm too lazy to look for new recipes and meal plan. Especially when I know that Max won't eat it (he eats a limited menu), and Eric will eat anything so it really doesn't matter if I make a fancy meal just for the two of us.
Anyway, I decided that while I was on my macro iPhone photography kick, I'd take a few shots of some gadgets in my kitchen.
And that, my friends, is all you will see of my kitchen for now! :)
Happy Friday!
