just a photo-dump few snapshots of our Labor Day weekend
in Newport, Oregon with some really great friends.
the weather was amazing...
our friends who did most of the cooking are amazing cooks!...
the kids had a blast...
Sammy was just plain worn-out...
it was a good end to the summer.

slice of life: haagen dazs (aka how come he gets the last one?)

The little stinker took the last one. I thought he was going for a popsicle and I turn around to see he's got the last Haagen Dazs. With nuts!!
When I showed Eric the photos on the back of my camera he said, "How come he gets the last one?"
I told him it was only because he didn't get to it first. HA!

Max had a few bites.
And then you know what he did?
He tossed it in the garbage. I kid you not!
That kid of mine tossed half a Haagen Dazs with chocolate and nuts in the garbage.

(I won't tell you if I grabbed it out of the garbage and rinsed it off or not...)

morning light.

sliver of light

Anyone who knows even a little bit about me knows I'm not at all a morning person.
But today, as I was up early to get Max off to school early (he's PM kindergarten, but every other Wednesday they go all day...crazy...) I noticed the lovely morning light streaming in.
Of course it streams into the messiest places in our house in the morning -
the laundry room, the master bathroom, the toy littered family room.
But then it got me thinking that really, it's the messy places in our life that most need illumination, right?
The dark, dank, dirty, disastrous places of our being that are most in need of that lovely, graceful light.
A few bright, warm rays to rouse us to a new day, full of possibility.

slice of life: camas days.

camas days
We went to our small town's little celebration on Friday, Camas Days. Good food, a few fun things for kids to do, a parade, lots of vendors, beer gardens and wine tasting. It was a fun time in our small, quaint little Camas.

slice of life: and you wonder why it's been so rainy...

the reason for the rain

Opening an umbrella inside is a lot like washing your car: guaranteed rain.

slice of life: his space.

everything in its place
He's got an office, friends. He's five and he has an office. In our family room. He's got a little corner by the windows that is full of his things - pens, pencils, stapler, DVDs, CDs, little cut-out paper butterflies, a dry erase board, Lego clock, T-ball trophy, glue, scissors...I could go on and on. Lots of stuff. It's a bit too much visual clutter for me, but I'm learning to be okay with it. Who cares if my family room is messy. Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? No. I keep reminding myself of this. It's his fun, happy place to play. That's all that matters.
